Winter Solstice-Dec.21,2020-Washington, D.C.

On this chart for the winter solstice, the sign on the horizon in Washington, D.C. is Scorpio signifying change, transformation and the dark night of the soul. This seems very appropriate for the darkest time of winter when the days are going to start getting longer. We are also in for a transformation of the presidency which according to this chart should bring dramatic change. Some of these changes will flow smoothly and others will be accompanied by disruptions which is no surprise.

Venus, the goddess of love and creativity, is in Sagittarius in the first house and it’s in a lovely trine aspect to Chiron, the wounded healer, in Aries. This should usher in a time of creative change and healing which is further enhanced by the trine aspect between Neptune, God of the spiritual realm, conjunct the Moon in Pisces-the sign ruled by Neptune symbolizing compassion and in another positive trine aspect to the Scorpio ascendant. This indicates a transformation in our new government towards compassionate action. This Neptune-Moon conjunction is also in a positive sextile aspect to Pluto, the god of transformation. However, Pluto is also in a difficult square aspect to Mars, god of war, showing that some of these changes may be met with obstruction and opposition. It will not be an easy transition,

The Sun on this chart is exactly conjunct Mercury, the messenger and they are both in Capricorn, the grounded achiever, the executive and it’s in a nice trine aspect to Uranus, signaling unexpected change. This aspect could possibly relate to getting the vaccine distributed faster than expected and getting the new government operating better than expected from the get-go.

Another very significant event at this moment in time is the exact conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter in Aquarius. The last conjunction of these 2 planets was in 2000 in Taurus. The last time they met in a conjunction in Aquarius was in 1226. Aquarius is the sign of the rebel, the bringer of change and the humanitarian. Jupiter is the risk-taker, the adventurer and Saturn is the preserver and the organizer so together in Aquarius they could bring a lot of change and disruption to the status quo but in a way that expands freedom and opportunities to more people. This is what Biden has promised so if he has the support of congress, this could happen.

On a personal level this is a wonderful time to make changes in your life, to make resolutions for the New Year and to begin a year with more compassion for yourself and others. Some of the changes won’t be easy as there could be push back by other people in one’s life but it’s a good time to assert oneself and have confidence in one’s ideals. It’s also a good time to meditate to get clearer on what you actually want to pursue for yourself and not to just meet other’s expectations. New creative projects can be very healing.
