Winter Solstice-Dec.21,2019- Washington, D.C.
The winter solstice is the shortest day of the year and the official beginning of winter. It’s the moment when the Sun enters Capricorn which is a cardinal earth sign ruled by the planet Saturn and right now Saturn is in Capricorn so it’s a serious time of hard work, reaping the rewards or consequences of earlier actions, setting boundaries and making plans. Capricorn is achievement oriented. At this time Saturn is conjunct the planet Pluto, the planet of transformation-the dark night of the soul. When Pluto is active on one’s chart it is a time to turn inward and experience one’s deepest feelings in order to re-emerge transformed and ready to enter a new phase. This Saturn Pluto conjunction is in a creative sextile aspect to the planet Mars-the planet associated with energy, assertion and moving forward in the sign of Scorpio, Pluto’s sign, so this gives an extra boost to the transformation dynamic. This is the time to let go of what no longer serves you and is holding you back from realizing your full potential.
Venus, the planet of love and creativity has just entered Aquarius the sign of the rebel but also the friend and humanitarian. It is in a square aspect to Uranus, the planet of unexpected change and the ruler of Aquarius so there can be disruptions in one’s relationships if they’re constricting one’s freedom or self- expression. Venus is also squaring the Moon in Scorpio thus forming a T-square perhaps indicating sudden explosions of hidden feelings within a romantic relationship or friendship. It’s time to bring hidden things to the surface-to communicate one’s feelings.
Jupiter, the planet of expansiveness and optimism has recently entered Capricorn and is trining Uranus. The trine between these 2 planets in these earth signs hasn’t happened since 1937. Jupiter is the risk taker, the adventurer and the optimist and rules Sagittarius a fire sign so he can be antsy and disruptive in an earth sign like Capricorn and Uranus is a rebel and disrupter so he also can feel stifled in an earth sign like Taurus. At this time they are in positive aspect to each other so I imagine there will be some disruptions not only related to Climate change during this year but also related to government since that is one of the structures of our society. We’ve already seen impeachment of the president. I think there’s more to come. On this chart which I’ve done for Washington, D.C. the ascendant is Virgo, the sign of hard work and service, and this is what has been happening in the government recently- whether or not one likes the outcome there has been serious, hard work going on and long hours of service by those in government. There is a positive trine aspect to the Saturn Pluto conjunction indicating that some positive accomplishment and transformation will emerge from all the hard work. The next few months should be interesting with unexpected changes occurring.
