Winter Solstice-Dec. 21st, 2017 Washington, D.C.

The chart for the solstice is important as it sets the tone for the whole winter season. In this chart the big news is that Saturn, the planet that is considered to be the ruler of Capricorn, has just entered the sign of Capricorn and is exactly conjunct the Sun on this solstice. The last time Saturn entered Capricorn was on February of 1988. It takes Saturn between 28 and 30 years to go completely around the zodiac so to be conjunct the Sun in Capricorn on the Winter Solstice is a rare event. Saturn is viewed as the Lord of Karma. It is associated with boundaries, caution, precision and hard work as well as professional achievement and ambition. It is also connected with consequences of not following the rules. In this chart for Washington, D.C. the Saturn-Sun connection is elevated in the 10th house-the house of profession and the public so it could be a time in the next 6 months where any wrong doing i.e. breaking the law-comes out to the public.

It is also a time when communications will be blurted out due to Mercury, the Messenger, being in Sagittarius in the 9th house which is the house of teaching and open communications. It is also in a square aspect (an aspect of conflict) to the Planet, Neptune, the mystical one, in its own house, the 12th signifying the inner realm of dreams, visions and spirituality. I would interpret this as a lot of confusion in communications coming from the government and those in the public eye which is not too surprising based on what has already transpired. Since Chiron, the planet connected to wounding, is prominently in the 1st house close to the ascendant in Pisces ,it seems that the wounds and issues of this administration will be right there on the surface-visible to all .However, since there is a nice trine between Neptune in the 12th and Jupiter conjunct Mars in Scorpio-both in water houses- there should be an openness we haven’t seen and a possibility of real transformation. Something definitely has to change.

The Moon associated with emotions is in Aquarius and in Aquarius’s own house, the 11th, which is connected to humanitarianism. However, the moon is in a square aspect to Mars so there will probably be a struggle between the forces of power and the forces of humanitarian concerns. It is not going to be a dull time.

On the personal level, it’s the time to be organized, cautious and decide what your goals are and how to achieve them. Also, be careful in communicating-be thoughtful before sending out that email. It’s an auspicious time to take stock of things, to meditate and become more focused. Letting your compassion lead you to humanitarian causes is a good path to follow.

P.S. I forgot to mention that the planet Venus associated with love and creativity is also close to the Sun and Saturn on this Solstice chart so this is a good time to undertake creative projects or make long term commitments in relationships.
